Gerhard E. Winkler draws his inspiration from the progressing shattering of the polar ice caps as a result of anthropogenic climate change and from the angry and unleashed pounding of medieval Istanpittas. Christof Dienz’ work refers to the horrors of ice and darkness and the compelling depictions of death and friendship by Christoph Ransmayr (soloists: Mira Lu Kovacs, voice and Walter Seebacher, clarinet). Inspired by the ancient oracle’s art of interpreting lightning, the nearly half hour work Liber Fulguralis by Tristan Murail elaborates on the ramifications of a single strike of lighting and gives way to a poetic exegesis of one of the nature’s most fascinating phenomena.
