Krassimir Sterev (accordion)
Krassimir Sterev was born in 1969 in Bulgaria, where he took his first music and accordion lessons from Nadejda Nicheva at the Junior Music School in Kazanlak.
He continued his musical education at the High School of Music in Plovdiv, where he studied accordion with Petar Marinov. In 1991, he enrolled at the Music University in Graz/Austria. From 1994 to 1996, Krassimir held a scholarship from the Royal Danish Academy of Music, and in 1997, he travelled to Copenhagen to participate in a soloist class at the Royal Academy, culminating with his debut concert there in December 1999. His musical development was strongly influenced by his teachers Mogens Epegaard and James Crabb.
Krassimir Sterev is performing as a soloist, as a chamber musician, as well as with ensembles and orchestras on an international level. He has participated in many renowned festivals worldwide, such as Steirischer Herbst in Graz, Wien Modern, Festival Salzburg, Musica Nova in Sofia/Bulgaria, Huddersfield Festival of Contemporary Music, Festival Musica Strasbourg, Takefu International Music Festival in Japan, North Western University and Renaissance Society in Chicago.
He is also performing in numerous theater- and dance productions (collaboration with Alain Platel, among others) and participating in projects specially-developed for children.
Since 2003, Krassimir Sterev is a member of the Klangforum Wien. He has also been working continuously with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (with Pierre Boulez und Daniel Barenboim), London Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna RSO, German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, (with Sussana Mälkki),
Ensemble Kontrapunkte, musikFabrik , and PHACE | CONTEMPORARY MUSIC.
Krassimir Sterev is strongly focused on the development of the accordion repertoire. He has performed the world premieres of numerous compositions which have been dedicated to him.
